TRUE multimedia dock?

Does anyone know of a dock that is more than an alarm clock/charger? Maybe one I could stream music on, like a radio? With speaker(s)? Thanks.

Love:heart: the Droid...my first smartphone.. just learning to use it.

I have actually seen one at a website--- said it would work with the Droid. It had a speaker and charged it at the same time....

Also charged a Iphone and Ipod---- Wish I coul dfind that link again.

I was going to ask.. Is there any way to listen to streaming music through the dock? Rather than just stored music on the phone? Would be cool to listen to Pandora when I got to sleep

one solution for the audio in the "multimedia" dock is to just get an A2DP connector, I think they sell them for pretty cheap. The benefit would be you could hook it up to any stereo you wanted, not just whatever speakers come with most multimedia docks. Also you could put your sound system anywhere in your room for optimal audio listening, and save room on your desk or bedside table.

If you don't have bluetooth normally on, I think you can set a condition in Locale that it turns on when dock mode is activated by the magnet, and off when you remove it. Sweet solution right?

You can try using the Ihome speaker dock from walmart. Its usually under $20

Isn't that an ipod accessory? cool, if only the Droid had the overly large proprietary iPod dock connector!

the dock doesnt need a ipod connector. Says on the website that it'll work with any mp3 player. It also runs on batteries (which I've heard last for quite a while). Its good if anyone needs a portable speaker but requires some DIY work in order to get the mirco usb plug thru.

It is usually nice when referring to a product or a website you provide a link. I googled this product

Is that what you are talking about? It is clearly designed with the ipod in mind. I would love to hear about your DIY project to Dock, Charge, and get audio over USB with this, I would be impressed.

I'd like a multimedia dock for traveling that has/does the following:

  • Convenient size/shape for traveling. Should fit in carry-on luggage and not arouse TSA suspicion.
  • Magnets to automatically activate dock mode.
  • Charges Droid
  • Amplified speaker -- powerful enough to use in a small dance studio for a few people to dance to (e.g., comparable to a small boombo
  • Ability to power speaker & droid from rechargeable batteries (preferably user replaceable) for at least 2 hours.
  • When plugged in, would be nice to charge the rechargeable batteries along with charging the Droid
Something that is a cross between the original Motorola Multimedia Dock and the Logitech PureFi Anywhere portable Ipod speaker would work nicely.

I don't mind if I have to separately plug a cable into the Droid's headphone jack -- that's not a big deal.

Since I don't travel that frequently (maybe once or twice a year), it shouldn't be too expensive. I could see paying up to $150 for it.

Sry about that. I was referring to this product: Walmart.com: iHome Portable Stereo Speaker System for iPods & MP3 Players, iHM10B Black: Audio

And I saw pics of the modified ihome speaker on this thread but the pics seem to be removed by the user. He explains how he did it. Also, the first post shows a cheaper DIY dock with pics. The user who had the ihome modification was metalmenance:
