Touchscreen button remapping

I transplanted the guts of my rooted Droid 2 into the body of my old Droid 1 (long story).
Everything is working perfectly except for the first three soft keys. The keys are in a different order on the D1. I want to remap the D2 soft keys to reflect those of the D1.
Which system files do I need to edit? I would prefer to do it manually rather than going the app route.
Thanks.

<Nevermind, I replaced the D1 digitizer with one from D2>

Guys, thanks for the feedback!

I'm really happy with my "upgraded" D1. I prefer its all-black industrial look over the rounded, silver faceplate of the D2.

I think remapping involves editing the keyboard layout file and pushing it to the phone via the sdk. I haven't actually tried it though. One thing that bothered me about remapping the keys is that the "back" soft key and "back" key on the physical keypad register the same key number. So fixing one would mess up the other.
I'm going to stick with the D2 digitizer since it works fine on the D1 faceplate.
