To AV or not to AV?

I've read many conflicting posts. People talk of android and malware and such. Should I be concerned with an AV program or not? I'm very particular about what goes on my DX, but what about other possible risks? Are the pgms worth anything?

I use Lookout, but more for the lost device part of it. It has anti virus, but it never freaks out on root stuff like AVG does.

I wouldn't be concerned with an AV
