Text pictures

Am on my droid and didn't find an answer I was looking for. I see picture texts on friends phones and they full screen and even move if gifs. When they send to me the pictures are still or so tiny. I remember on my regular droid 1 I had full screen mms until a certain patch update. How or even can I fix this and get full size picture texts again without having to save picture first?

as far as i know you have to click on the pic to have it show full screen (will open up the gallery and display it full screen)

also i have never received a .gif so i have no clue if that would even work...it should but i dont know for sure.

but at times i get those pictures that are played back to back, like a scrolling gallery. when i click, its pause.
