I dont see why not, I can use my Droid to tether to my (now some lucky ebayer's) iTouch, so I dont see why not. If I can get close enough to an iPad on the campus apple store i'll test it myself.
Are you talking about a rooted Droid (where you could become a wifi hotspot) or an unrooted droid where you need a usb hookup (with a program like pdanet)? I am getting an ipad also (that new coming os makes this pretty exciting).
kellex - thanks for the link, unfortunately, the solution you provided requires rooting my droid. i'm not comfortable bricking my droid yet. also, doesn't the ota 2.1 affect any rooting?
samredman - unrooted but wifi hotspot. i've used pdanet before and i like it but will probably require some type of adaptor for the apple ipod/ipad/iphone connector to mini-usb.
*bump* Anyone have more input on this? I'm jealous of my daughter's Palm Pre, which now comes with a WiFi hotspot app. I've used it easily with my iPad. I want a similar solution for my Droid, without rooting...
But even with cables -- what would I need to use PDANet to tether my Droid to my iPad? Something to mate the USB ends of the different cables together?
I (well my wife actually) also has an iPad and was wanting to use one or both of our Droid Xs to tether to the iPad to use the internet. I am not interested in going through the process of rooting my phone just yet, seems very complicated and risky. I am also not going to give Verizon any more of my money for WiFi capabilities (dumb). So I was thinking of getting PDAnet or other app...(Ideas?) and buying an adapter for the micro usb to connect to the ipad cable, which I think I have found here...
Download the program and transfer it to the SD card on your Droid using the USB cable from your PC (you'll have to mount the SD card).
Change the application setting to allow installation of software from unknown sources.
Use a file manager program such as Astro or ES File Explorer (which I use) both available from the android market, browse the SD card and click on EasyRoot.apk to install the program. (follow directions from the EasyRoot website)
after installation install Wireless Tethering also available from the android market.
EasyRoot is dead-simple to install and run. It even provides a button link to the wireless tethering app. It took about 5 minutes to run and get an iPod Touch connected.
