Just as we indicated yesterday, Sprint officially unveiled the new Sharp Aquos Crystal smartphone today. The device will be available on Sprint, Virgin Mobile, and Boost Mobile in the United States. They have yet to announce exact availability dates, but we do know that you will be able to get the device for $0 down and 24-monthly payments of $10 on Sprint. It will cost $149.99 on Boost and Virgin Mobile.

[Update: We have word that pre-orders start today for an August 29 availability for this phone.]

We must reiterate that the internal specs of this device are mediocre, yet it still has the potential for decent success based upon its unique aesthetics alone. When you factor in the affordable price, this could be a decent seller in the budget-friendly markets. It turns out the specs for the Japanese and the American version are the same. Here's a recap,
  • 5-inch 1280 x 720 edge-to-edge display
  • 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 1.5GB of RAM
  • 8GB of internal storage
  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat
  • Harman-Kardon audio
  • Battery 2,040 mAh
  • 10 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams
This isn't a big feather for Sprint to stick in their hats, but when mixed with their new aggressive pricing plans, it might catch the attention of some folks.
