It looks like Sprint is getting creative in working out how to expand their 4G LTE coverage across the United States. While they continue to upgrade their own infrastructure to add LTE service to their existing network, it looks like they will also be working with other regional carriers in a cooperative partnership which will expand their own network and allow the regional carriers to offer 4G LTE too.

According to a new press release, Sprint just inked a deal with several regional carriers across the nation which will allow these carriers to offer 4G LTE service while using Sprint's LTE serivce. This will also allow Sprint to expand its 4G LTE coverage by roaming on the regional networks, as they will share the cost of upgrading. It's called the Rural Roaming Preferred Program and includes 23 different states as well as the following list of carriers:

  • SouthernLINC Wireless
  • nTelos
  • C Spire Wireless
  • Nex-Tech Wireless
  • Flat Wireless
  • SI Wireless dba MobileNation
  • Inland Cellular
  • Carolina West Wireless
  • James Valley Telecommunications
  • VTel Wireless
  • Phoenix Wireless
This is a clever way for Sprint to improve their 4G LTE coverage area. What do you think?
