Spot on home screen problem

I deleted an app icon from my home screen and now when I try to put the new desired app icon there it just go to the trash soon as I release it. Doesn't matter what icon I try, all the same results. I've powered the phone off and still same results.
Any suggestions?

I've done that a ton of times, only to find out that I forgot that I have Moon Phase Widget and in the new moon it go's black and it looks blank. Well, The UI thinks there is an app there. Try to touch and hold the area that is blank and see if something sticks and then drag that to the trash. Just for kicks.
Or are you trying to put a widget that takes up more than one space?

There is no other icon there "hidden" and no I'm not trying to add a new widget.
