Speed Test Question

We just got 4G in our area today and I wanted to see the upload and download speeds on my Droid Charge. What app do I download to test the speed?

the speedtest app is the one i used, but i think i remember when LTE first came out people were saying it was reporting incorrect speeds or something so take with a grain of salt

The first time I ran the test in 4G these are my results

Download: 13.74 mbps
Upload: 2.31 mbps
Ping: 143 ms

2nd Run in 4G

Download: 15.47 mbps
Upload: 1.60 mbps
Ping: 143 ms

My third run I did in 3G and these are my results:

Download: .38 mbps
Upload: .13 mbps
Ping: 319 ms

Question.

The question is: is the speedtest app on the ThunderBolt accurate when on 3G? 4G? If yes, mine is way slower than above. If inaccurate, what's better? Please note that I do not live near any 4G area, although Hagerstown, MD is supposed to get it maybe by July's end...

The last I had any 4G connection was when I took a trip through Harrisburg, PA on 6/24. Results: 3.48 Mbps down, 1.06 Mbps up and 78 ms ping

Faster than 3G but not entering incredibly blazing fast.......... :rating06:
Hey, just askin'.

Lots of factors here.... distance from cell site, interference, inside/outside, speedtest server, etc. This is not even considering the test is being run through a speedtest app (not 100% reliable). Above all 4G is still in its child stages of development and optimization.

That sounds about right. You may want to try using different servers as that could heavily affect your results.

So, is Speedtest.net app accurate enough to give us ballpark numbers? Any better or more accurate app, given wireless and mobile device variables?

PS here is in home 3G that I just did: 1.17 Mbps Down, 0.51 Up and 197 ms ping / closest server is 47.33 Km away
