sms interceptor

I'm looking for a text interceptor for the sole purpose of monitoring my kid's texts. I must not be seeing what I'm looking for on google's android market. I won't pay $50 for an app i know I can get much cheaper, if not free. And, ideally, not requiring a subscription service. Not interested in that, neither. Does anyone have any suggestions??

not too much you're gonna get on here to do this. verizon offers a few things along this line, but theyre all services you're gonna pay for.
