Slow OG Droid

I have had my OG Droid since the first week it was released. I have used many different ROMs over the course of this time.

I have noticed in the last couple months that no matter what I switch to or use, every single ROM will slow down after a week to two weeks of use. I have tried installing cache-cleaners, memory managers... I have tried cleaning the Dalvik cache on a regular basis (which seems to work for a day or so) but in the end, everything always slows down.

Presently I am using Project Gimpsource 3.1, with LauncherPro. I have tried using ADW as well and experience the same problems. I have switched back and forth between the two launchers many times, and ended up purchasing both of them.

In my efforts to speed things up I have removed most visual effects that I can, bouncing screens, transition effects. I have spent time optimizing anything and everything I can to run as fast as possible. I removed most of my widgets now except for (LauncherPro's) facebook, twitter and agenda widgets.

I have not tried turning off WidgetLocker since I use its functions on a daily basis, but accept it could be this program. It's about the only thing I have not tried removing. I went from 5 screens full of stuff to 3 minimal screens.

I have tried using overclocking kernals set to "performance", right now my kernal is a 900mhz Raidzero lowvoltage.

Does anyone have ANY ideas what-so-ever?

I am ready to trash the phone and get a new one, but unfortunately I have no $ for a new phone.

Sounds like you tired most everything... i got no ideas.. I am using Sourcery Rom that is the cleanest and fastest i used (tried about eight), Maybe that will help..

why don't you make a nandroid and just do a clean install after wipind a few times?

I like to make a backup then wipe data/etc a few times at least once a month sometimes just to restore

Try getting rid of widget locker and just see if that doesn't help out.

If not I would try this:

Make your backups and wipe (three times) and do a fresh install of your current ROM. Then I would only restore necessary apps for now. Also just use the kernel that comes with the ROM.

See if your slowness continues. If it doesn't continue restore some more apps and see.

I'm not familiar with your ROM but you may want to see what kernels are liked by it. Some ROMs like certain kernels and some phones like certain voltages.

I think that slowly adding back apps would be brutal. I am going to take a eliminate one thing at a time approach. Since it can take a week or so after a clean install for things to slow down I am going to get it to usable first.

I have eliminated Widgetlocker and LauncherPro at this point. Using stock launcher with the same ROM i was using before Gimpsource 3.1. (After wiping data/cache 3 times and starting from scratch!)

So far no problems, and actually after stopping Widgetlocker things seemed to speed up a bit and I realized some of the things that Widgetlocker does I really don't like. Although I like the idea of lockscreen customization.

So far so good I guess..we'll see how the next week shapes up. Oh... and I can't stand only being able to have the phone and the browser on my dock.

Have you tried editing the preformance settings?
ie
Surface dithering - I have better success with it off
Compcache - I set it to 18% but some have better luck with it off.
And sysctl settings. There are several threads in the droid x forum that may lead you in the right direction.

You may also check cpu useage in spare parts to see if you have some rouge app eating up resources, much easier than removing apps one at a time.
