From what you stated, I think you may be referring to your SD card, and not the actual carrier SIM for subscriber information, is this true?
The SIM can not be altered by the customer as this is carrier-related data, but the SD card can be changed, and if your card is damaged and you can no longer access the information, you may be SOL, unless you can try a different device or computer to see if you can pull anything off of the card, it's worth the effort.
Many times, the internal card readers have pins that get bent when an SD card is shoved into its slot, making the reading of said card, impossible, and this may be your issue also, so I would at least try to read the card with another device to be certain about this.
