SIM card lock for security

Is there a way to lock the SIM card so that it can't be used in a different phone? I am heading outside the US for a few days and was concerned about the phone being stolen and someone popping the SIM card into a different phone and running up a big bill.

I see there is a SIM lock option under security but not sure what it does.

If you are seriously concerned about that you can take the sim card out and buy another when you get to your destination. Buy it for a local cellular provider and you can use their network and not get any roaming charges. You should be able to find them at airports.

If you go into Settings>Security there is a feature to password protect the SIM.

Does the security feature prevent someone from inserting a new SIM as opposed to preventing someone from using the existing SIM in a new phone?

from what I have tried.. you would have to enter a pin every time....

I didn't follow that. Do you mean that the SIM lock feature would require someone to enter a PIN to use that SIM in a different phone?
