Shiny Rom for the Nexus 7 (2012) has been updated to Android 4.4.4. While the latest version of Android is already available for this device via an over the air update it would mean returning your device to stock including returning your recovery to stock. This can be a pain and often it is much easier to just flash a Rom that includes the latest update. Shiny rom has always strayed away from heavy theming and customization. However there are a few mods to increase stability and performance. The rom features include a 4.4.4 (KTU84P) build, Source AOSP built kernel, Google experience launcher, easily rootable, Gapps all updated, stock browser replaced with Google Chrome, Shiny restart options (gives you an easy way to quickly get to bootloader, and recovery mode) and everything works. It should be noted that this Rom is not prerooted however you can easily root the rom by flashing Superuser.zip in recovery. Shiny rom is updated on a regular basis. Head to the link below for the download link.
