We found an exciting game to show you guys today! Shadowrun will be coming to the PC, Mac, iOS and Android this year! There are so many things to say about this game we will have a hard time holding back our enthusiasm. First, for folks who know the Shadowrun game setting, you will probably be overjoyed to learn that this game is nothing like the multiplayer action game that came out a few years ago on the PC. This version holds directly with the original concepts of the pen and paper role-playing game created by Jordan Weisman. In fact, Mr. Weisman himself is the man leading the indie development studio behind this game! Also, this game is a true RPG that uses a tactical turn-based combat system. As you will be able to tell from the video above, it is very reminiscent of the classic PC games Fallout and Fallout 2 in its gameplay. This is an incredible pedigree to have, and bodes well for the success of the title.
For those who haven't heard of the Shadowrun universe, here's the premise: Shadowrun is basically like a Dungeons and Dragons style fantasy world which eventually evolves into a technological world like we have today. It is basically set in a cyberpunk style future that goes a step further by incorporating fantasy elements as well. This means it mixes up awesome sci-fi elements like cybernetic implants, hacking, assault weapons and combat drones with magic, elves, orcs and swords. In this alternate future the world is run by mega-corporations some of which are owned by ancient dragons. Your character is a Shadowrunner, which is basically a mercenary that hires out to engage in corporate espionage or all-out corporate warfare.
From what we can see of the game so far, the true spirit of the game just oozes out with the familiar charm and style of the original PnP role-playing game. This will easily be the most faithful adaptation to a video game platform ever created for Shadowrun, and you would expect nothing less from the original creator of the game. If everything holds to schedule, the PC and Mac versions will launch this summer, and version for iOS and Android will come out sometime before the holidays. Some of us here at HQ can't wait to get our hands on this game!
