If i were to buy the Motorola Xoom from motorola's website would need to be on a data plan with verizon or can i just buy the device with out a data plan?

I believe they dropped the on month charge and you can purchase for wifi only. A quick call to VZW should clarify. Let us know, please.

You do not need a data plan to buy or use the xoom, wifi works either way. You do however save $200 if you sign up for a two year contact

Best Buy, Motorola, and Verizon (I think) all sell the Xoom off-contract. However, if you wait a couple months the WiFi-only version will hit for $600. Also, the Xoom isn't even shipping with the 4G modem, so if you want 4G in the future you'll have to ship it off to Motorola to have it installed at some future date.

Im not to worried about 4G sense its not in my area yet i dont mind spending another 200 all i wanted to know if it was off contract thanks!

If you have no other internet source, you're correct, because devices like this are pointless without internet (mostly). However, the data plan is going to cost you a minimum of $1200, so that's an extra $1k over the cost of it off-contract.

My point is if you are going to need a data plan you save 200. If you don't need a data plan than obviously you don't save anything.
