Sending messages to someone using the Facebook app

How can I send a message to someone directly using the Facebook app. I do not see the option to do this.

Do you mean you do this using the general mailbox icon and not through the Facebook app?

I am not currently synching my Facebook contacts, because I wasn't sure what that meant, so I guess I would have to do that?

Where is the mailbox in Facebook? I do not see that option on the Facebook homescreen.

I'm using the Droid Incredible and it came with what I thought would be the most current version. I am upgrading now.
