I know there is a pattern option but I find that annoying. Is there an app, or a way to set a passcode like some numbers or something to unlock phone?

I agree. The pattern is cool, but almost every phone available has the option to have an unlock passcode

Anyone know of an APP that will allow a code to be used for security and not the pattern swipe thing--which I think is really stupid.

i use lock 2.0 when you originally download it the stock skin is an iphone style but you can down load custom skins, battery icons, and unlock sounds if you so choose it also has the option under the apps setting menu to you a 4 digit passcode.... I am currently using a speedometer and tach unlock screen with a ferarri tach battery status icon... as you can see the battery shows the tach in different positions according to the charge level of the battery.... there are a bunch of different skins main and battery, as well as unlock sounds... some screenshots from mine
