No, the SD card doesnt "store" anything automatically...its just a storage drive. As well, the stock messaging app does not store or back-up messages either, and I am pretty sure it cant be made to do so either. Now, if you want to swap to GoSMS or HandCent SMS, each of these have the ability to set back-up modes that will save messages to the SD card...
