SD card questions SO not familiar with SD cards

Hey everyone. Just bought my first Droid (Droid 1) used from Craigslist. I like it so far just having issues with saving pictures. I keep googling the question I've had about it but my question wasn't answered anywhere.

First, this is probably going to sound super stupid but I'm so new to Droid and smart phones in general really since I just switched from an LG Envy Touch to a Droid.

Does the Droid come with its' own SD card installed already? If so, how come the option of "Saving to SD card" doesn't appear when I open a picture sent to my phone and try and save it? I've been in the SD card settings and even unmounted/reformatted it since there were some old pics on it from the previous owner but it didn't fix the problem.

Also, if the Droid 1 does NOT come with an SD card, do I have to buy one? I've never had one for any phone so I wouldn't even know where to begin with that. Can I just save pictures to my phone itself? How do I do that?

And if I absolutely HAVE to buy an SD card what's a good one to get? I'm not going to be doing too much music stuff but will probably use the video and picture features quite a bit if the card doesn't too much.

Appreciate any help guys! Thanks!

I believe it comes with a 16GB card pre installed. Long press on a picture and a menu will pop up. click copy attachment to sd card and youre done. this should nullify your other questions as well. the easiest way to find out though would be to go to settings>sd card and phone storage. then it should show the sd card and the total and the available space left on the card.

Well, I went to the Settings on my Droid and it says there is a mounted card in there and gave me the stats. Then, I went downloaded the Astro File Manager like someone else already said so I could browse through the files. The Astro File Manager isn't picking up anything on my card... and I still can't use that option. The one where you longpress the picture and the "Save to Card" option does not appear where it's supposed to... :icon_rolleyes:

OP, when using Astro to look for your pics, do you have the phone plugged in via USB to your PC, or are you just using Astro to view the from the phone? I ask since depending on how the USB settings are, the SD card can become non-readable when connected via USB.

If you are just browsing with Astro on the phone, make sure you are actually in the SD card. In Astro, on the Top Navigation abr, you should see a Home button and a "Up Folder" button..click the Home button and you should be carried to the root directory tree of the SD Card, where quite a few folders can be seen. The DCIM folder is where your pictures should be if the SD card is actually working properly.

Also, make sure the SD card is actually installed...Go to Settings--->SD Card and Phone Storage Settings--->SD Card Total Space/Available Space---> Is there something listed there?---If yes, then there is a card installed--->If o, then there is no card installed. Also check to make sure the SD Card is "Mounted", meaning it is accessible by the phone for use. Just a few slots below the above SD Card info is a couple of settings, Mount SD Card / Unmount SD Card...only 1 of these 2 options should be viewable...if the card is mounted, only Unmount SD Card will be lit and visible, if Mount SD Card is visible, then that means the SD Card is not mounted and needs to be in order to be used.
