For several years we have heard rumors that various smartphone manufacturers were planning to introduce optical iris scanning authentication to their devices. In fact, it was just last year that the Samsung Galaxy S5 was rumored to include that technology. It came and went, and even the next gen Galaxy S6 also arrived, without the technology, yet the rumors continue to persist.
The latest "rumint" indicates that both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 will come with the fancy security feature in order to stand out above the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 6 and other current-gen devices. It's now not as far-fetched to believe though as two devices have already come to market with limited forms of the technology. The Vivo X5 Pro and the Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G both use iris scanners to unlock the device and activate passwords.
Both of these devices were only available in China, so it would not be surprising to see Samsung and LG competing to bring that tech to the global stage. Which one will bring it first is still up in the air.
