We were starting to think that the LG LS970/E970 (aka the Eclipse) might be just a myth. Over the past couple of months we have seen numerous rumors surrounding the device, but now we have a Bluetooth SIG confirming its existence. The E970 seems likely headed for AT&T as it has AT&T GSM and LTE bands, and the LS model is likely headed to Sprint (CDMA/LTE). This looks like one of the most robust devices we have ever seen. The specs are simply off the charts:
  • Quad-core Qualcomm S4 Krait chip
  • The latest Adreno 320 GPU
  • 1280x768
  • 13MP rear camera
  • 2GB of RAM
According to the SIG listing these devices are scheduled for release in North America "around 10/31/2012." It seems like LG is getting serious about trying to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X. Share your thoughts.

I see Verizon is conspicuously missing. Of course, if it did come to Verizon, they'd likely dumb it down with a dual-core chipset and 1GB of RAM.

Oh man! That looks awesome

I'm a little scared of LG thought. Why is it that every other Andorid app seems to have compatibility problems with the LG Optimus...Does anyone know? I'm basing this off the note that's in the Amazon App store about every other day for the free app of the day saying it is not compatible with the LG Optimus. What's the deal with that and would there be similar compatiblity problems with this device?

I love the hardware! To me it sounds like the best hardware available in any phone easily. I'd love if the Razr HD would end up with these specs. Actually, I'm fine with a dual core but I'd like to see it get the Adreno 320.

Does anybody know how LG is about putting out updates for their phones?

Verizon better have some awesome phone with equal to these specs up their sleeves. Besides the S3 I dont see why were not getting a high end phone from HTC like everyone else is in the One X, and now LG?
blahhhh... Actually it doesnt really matter Im not getting sucked in from verizon with another 2 year contract, so I will most likely be paying full retail price on my next phone.

Both HTC and Motto are going to come out with these new Quad core CPU's from Qualcomm this fall "no reason for them not to", that is when these new quad cores will come out with LTE band chips. But by then, looks like I will be buying my new smartphone, only way to keep my unlimited data, but who knows what Verizon has up it's sleeve by then.

considering the release date at the end of October, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a few other phones hit the market to compete with it. And that's assuming they don't push it back a year like the Bionic too. I'd really like to see a smaller phone with those kinda high specs. A 4.3" screen with no bezel like the GSIII was supposed to have and only soft keys like the GNex would be ideal for me...
