:welcome: into the Forums. Before rooting you may want to gather some facts about some upcoming changes that Verizon is making in regarding detecting phones that have been rooted.

The easiest way to root is with a program called z4Root. I'd check at XDA developers for that if I were you.
One other thing too. You should be running 2.2.x Check to see if an update is available for you OTA.

Also it wouldn't hurt for you to read the stickies in this section to gain a little more knowledge of rooting. Good luck.

I checked updates there r none it says im up to date

Thanks! I am a D1 user, but my girl has a Droid X. I ran that file, and I am now rooted. My question is, is installing ROMS the same process as my Droid 1? Reboot into recovery, and flash a rom?

You need Droid x bootstrap to get clockwork recovery, then wipe data/cache, install zip, reboot.

So I tried 3 different files of the same thing and it claims the file can't be opened

Lol so I got it to go install but my avg said it was infected? False positive? Or like a crack?
