Root droid on android 2.1

I'm currently running a Droid on 2.1(update 1). I'm wondering if I can root it on that current firmware, or is there not even a relationship between rooting it and the firmware version? Because I tried rooting it, and it gives me the "installation aborted" message. Is that because I was using a file of the wrong firmware?

They have not found a root exploit for Android 2.1 yet. If you really want to root you can flash the sbf for 2.0.1 then root and then you can install 2.1 that someone has removed the recovery and have rooted official 2.1.
