Resize custom icons

Whenever I try to replace an icon, and the replacement icon is tiny. Anyway, to scale them appropriately?

I haven't messed with this yet, but I have seen a few custom themes that appear to work.

What method are you using to change icons? Custom launcher (like Nova or ADW), app (Desktop Visualizer), or one of the various root methods (Metamorph,?

What size are the icons you are using?

I am not able to provide ant dimensions, and but I am using nova launcher. I opened the individual png files in the gallery, and they are plenty big. I but when I replace an icon, the new one is 2x smaller than the stock icon
