I've been thinking about this as well. There's an app in the market called Remote Wipe for root users. Its suppose to factory reset the phone and delete all data on the sdcard. Haven't tried it yet, but if it works it would be all we needed

Yea those apps do a decent job. But my fear is in the wrong hands someone might be able to crack it. A complete wipe of everything would be more reassuring. Although the deleted data could still be restored on the sdcard too with the right software, and the nandroid backup then restored. If remote wipe works it would be nice if the dev added data shredding as well. Bottom line, no matter what you do, a determined person could still access your data. Granted most won't be able to though.

F-Secure has begun offering a solution that will lock down, disable, or wipe your Android phone, in case it gets stolen. The security company also launched F-Secure Mobile Security, protection against Web sites set up to deliver malware, or more immediately, phish for personal information. The complementary F-Secure Mobile Security 6 offers antivirus, firewall, and anti-spyware features for the Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms, features not available for Android.
"F-Secure has been protecting mobile devices for a full decade and we are proud to introduce our first products for the fast-growing Android platform," said Patrik Sallner, vice president of F-Secure's mobile business unit," said in a statement. "Our Anti-Theft for Mobile adds a valuable level of extra security for smartphone users and can also be easily upgraded to include more security features, including Browsing Protection."
It's unclear whether or not mobile phones actually need antivirus, a firewall, or anti-spyware protection; at this point, no widespread malware has threatened the mobile-phone market. Still, experts continue to warn that 2010 may be the year that mobile malware strikes. In a note sent Thursday, F-Secure said that 418 pieces of malware have been detected on the Symbian OS to date, and 20 on the PocketPC or Windows Mobile platform.
Both of the new F-Secure products allow the phone to be remotely locked or wiped via an SMS text message.
Mobile Security 6 for Windows Mobile and Symbian costs $59.99 to protect a single smartphone for 24 months, or $39.99 for 12 months. The slimmed-down Android version costs $29.95 for 24 months, or $19.95 for 12 months.
