Removing Apps

I have an app (Sticher Smart Radio) that I would like to remove. Dragging it to the garbage doesn't

It shows up in my Notifications and nothing I do will delete it.

Is dragging it to the garbage the only thing you've tried? Did this app come pre-installed on your phone?

I would try going to settings>applications>manageapplications>All. Look for your app by name, click it and there should be an option to delete. If you've already tried that then I'm not sure, sorry.

If it came pre-loaded, you might not be able to get rid of it unless you have the phone rooted. If you are rooted you can remove it or freeze it with something like titanium backup.

What is "rooted"? What does it 'buy' me? What are the cautions? How do I 'root?
