Remove or disable the stock txt app...

I don't use Chomp -- I use Handcent -- so your mileage may vary, but I found that when I froze the stock messaging app (using Titanium Backup Pro), I stopped getting notifications of my messages in Handcent. Once I unfroze the stock app, everything was fine again ... so I'd be cautious about disabling it.

All you have to do is turn off the notifications.
The stock app will still receive text messages but you will not be notified of them.

If you plan on never using it... If your rooted, use root explorer and delete the .apk from the /system/app, then run a search and delete all the files connected to messaging.

I used TB to freeze the stock sms and I was then unable to get pictures! Everything else worked fine, just no media coming in.

How do you do this? Meaning, I am rooted and have root explorer. I found the messagesmms apk and changed that to bak. It sort of works because the messages would not show up in the stock one but I also couldnt get MMS on either anymore. Do i need to find a different apk and then how do i "search" to see what it's linked to...

thanks
