Remove an email account that is not in the list of accounts but recieving mail.

I want to remove an email account on my Droid 4.


menu - settings - accounts does not show the email account, but the Messaging app has the email account and it is receiving messages. Power cycling the phone does not remove the email account. Also, menu - settings - applications - Messaging app - clear data is not clickable. How can I remove this email account without a factory reset?
