I'm not sure what they are, but theirs 225 MB worth of these downloadfile-#.apk, numbered 1-142 in my download folder. What are these and are they safe to delete? I'm rooted but I'm concerned I'm going to delete some vital file and brick my droid

They show up in mine all the time too. I delete them. Nothing deleted in /sd/download would harm your phone. Now, if it were in say /system, that would be a different story :)

if you have your apps on your sd thats where they download to i believe, i have old .apk files there from apps i downloaded a while ago from the store. but if i accidentally delete one that is installed it deletes the app on your phone

These are actually called "downloadfile-xx" and won't delete the actual app from your phone. Apps on your sd card are just named whatever the app is. I just deleted one that said it was SetCPU and the app is still there. Not sure what these are or why the appear.

Apps download from the market through your download folder. If you get a bad download or an app that won't install sometimes it leaves those files behind. If you ever update a bunxh of apps at once go to your download folder and you'll see them going through there.

Thanks for all the replies, I deleted the files and didn't lose anything. It seems like basically just incomplete or failed downloads then?
