questions about texting with Galaxy S3 texting

I have a few questions about the texting feature on the Galaxy S3 is there any way to hide text messages? I have messed with the phone but cannot find a way to hide a text. My girlfriend and I both have one but hers is always saying 1 new text or the number varies from time to time but she has no new text that I can see.

Actually I have the same problem no matter how many times I check my messages it always says I have one or two but restart the phone sometimes that helps but it May not work every time tho

Have you tried clearing the cache? Sounds like it's holding onto something in the background perhaps?
