Question about selling a subsidized phone

I ordered a Droid Ultra for free with a 2 year renewal on my current line. I'm wondering if I can simply sell the new Ultra (and use that money toward a preowned phone that I like better). Can I just sell the new in box phone without ever activating it to my line? If not, can I activate it then immediately deactivate it and sell it without issue? Thanks for any help.

You can do whatever you like with the phone. The only thing that matters is you are on their service plan. You don't need to open it or anything. Just buy or trade for whatever you like. Go to the Verizon website and activate your "new" phone.
