Putting video taken on a computer

On Saturday it worked fine. I took video, plugged it in and was able to play it anywhere, edit it and finally upload to youtube. Well today I go to record something, and when I get to the computer it won't play in Windows Media Player or any other Windows program (I need to edit it in one of them before uploading to YT). I get this:

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

and other times...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

None of the "troubleshooting" seems to be helping, and I've tried two different cards. One old 8gb and a brand new 16gb. Does anyone have any idea what I can do here? As far as I can see, with this problem I can't take video and store it on my computer/YT, which is a problem for me.
