Pulling Down the Notification Bar

I have been told that, after connecting the phone to the computer via USB, I should make sure to select "disk" or "mount disk" on the phone and that, if I miss that step because the window to do it goes away, I can still do it by "pulling down the notification bar."

How do I "pull down the notification bar"?

Oh, I see. Or, at the main (lock) screen, I can simply hit Menu/Notifications, and get the same thing, right? Right.
