Problem rooting after ics leak

So I have the latest ics leak installed, and I followed Mr. Smith's guide to unlocking, rooting, and roming. Everything seems to go fine, I get it unlocked, install amon ra and flash superuser, then try to download the other supersu listed, it installs but when I open it it says it needs to update or activate, then tells me it is unable. I use the root check app and it said I do not have root access. Do I need to root the phone to install cleanrom?
