I have installed Z4 on my original Droid (OS 2.2.1) and want to root it so that I can back up all settings, apps, data, etc to be able to move to a Droid X. I have followed all instructions on prep, but when I click on "Permanent Root" on the Z4 menu it run until it says "acquiring root shell" and then it craps out...... Phone works fine after rebooting. I have tried it 4 times - all with the same results. Any ideas to successfully root my phone would be appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I know I'm late, but wondering if you have turned on Usb debugging? that _might_ have been the problem.

That's interesting. Multiple people confirmed it didn't work after their update.

However, if you root the way in my signature, it will block updates.
