I have had a droid since the day it released over a year ago, it was rooted shortly very after. Today the power button on the top stopped working.. I am confused with what to do.

a) bring it back to the VZ store and beg for a replacement
b) pay $90 insurance for a new one
c) download app to remap camera button as power button

Try a, then b. While c is an option its the equivalent of jerryrigging. May be a good quickfix until you either a or b.

option d)phone is over a year old, so VZ wouldnt budge. Called motorola, at first they didnt budge either, but if you complain enough they send you to their escalated claims and repairs department. I complained some more and she issued a "one time customer satisfaction replacement." so long story short, i am sending my phone to motorola, prepaid, and they will fix it and send it back within a week... for free...
