Thats good, i wont root mine anytime soon. Then again i shouldn't say that because i would love tethering for free.

Yeah totally possible, I installed "ShapeWriter" from a website using the Apk file. I guess it wouldn't hurt to be careful though, I know there really aren't any Linux viruses that I know of, but it's still good to do a little research when downloading from alternate sources.

Your best bet is to weigh your decisions upon others that you trust. An app could record all your web visits, send your contacts off someplace else or do a variety of things. You truly are choosing to trust unknown sources.

If a bunch of other trustworthy folks suggest an app not in the market then it probably is a safe thing.
