Phone marks server's unread email as read

When I go online with my PC to list the pop3 server's email it is all marked as read. This even though I only opened about half of them with my new Droid X phone.

I have installed the K9 mail App. The original email App still runs so I can't be sure which email client is doing it.

Why does the DX mark as read on the server all the titles that it lists?

Not sure, but I'm not a huge fan of the stock app. I use K-9 mail, which is adequate.

If anyone has other free email app suggestions, I'm open to them.
