Phone Keeps Trying to Update, Reboots, Fails - PAIN!

I have a Verizon Droid X 2.3.15.MB810.verizon.en.us, Android 2.2 - rooted

Every time I turn the phone on it automatically downloads a system update (can't stop it) then REBOOTS WITHOUT WARNING, and the update fails.

This renders my phone useless for about 10 minutes when I turn it on.

I could care less about the update (why should I care, the phone works?).

Is there a way to stop it from doing this or a way to get the update to succeed?

thanks

Anybody help?

It rebooted twice in last 12 hours trying to do this update.

Verizon's tech support's answer was to reset to factory defaults
