Overheat and black screen

Okay so occasionally my x2 will cease working for no reason, black out the screen and begin to heat up underneath the battery by the buttons. Weird part is that while it does this I can hit the lock button and the LED will flash and I can see a backlight for the screen turn on and if I slide across the screen where the unlock would be it would vibrate as it its actually working. This being said, my assumption is its a video card issue but I don't understand it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, also let me know if you have further questions.
