Yup.

The most they will get is to a fourth generation. We are talking about 4 years, and tech years are like dog years where a year feels like 2 or 3.
With the advances and tech, we will be rocking Ara like phones then (hopefully) upgrading parts versus an entire phone.

I think Ara type upgrades are a little further out that 4 years. Especially for any kind of mainstream device.

Call me a skeptic, as i don't believe Project Ara will ever work. A modular phone will be thicker and heavier device. And then there is the FCC who needs to approve the device. The FCC only tests configured devices not modular devices. A modular device may pass in one configuration and fail in another. Multiply that by the total number of possible configurations is destined to failure.

Could be why it's being tested in Puerto Rico as opposed to the US. That said, Puerto Rico is a US territory, so IDK.
I'm excited about Project Ara, but I'm also skeptical. There are way too many "players" involved regarding the different manufacturers for the various modules. If one manufacturer handled all the pieces, I think the overall success rate of this device would be much higher. I think it's still going to be a few years until all the pieces finally fit, (no pun intended.....ok, maybe a little pun) and we see this come to market.

Looking forward to seeing what the Two brings to the table. It would be cool if they started mass production instead of having a limited invite system. The only benefits I can see to limited production runs would be excess stock not sitting on shelves. That's pretty huge since they are already cutting margins by selling them so inexpensively. Having excess would create a big loss down the road.

I was really excited about the One until they started the invite system. I had made up my mind to buy one until that happened. The invite sales model ruined the experience for me so I moved on to the next Samsung model. It looks like I will be doing so again.
