Not really. Liberty 3 is pretty stable though. I always come back to CM7 though.

If you go to the GB kernel one you don't. Its unofficial made by Revnumbers. Just wipe, flash it and flash Gapps.

Also, there is a working ICS build for the X but it isn't stable enough to be a daily driver IMO. Its called EncounterICS.

Since you're on GB, you're good to flash that CM7 without sbf'ing. I've switched from CM7 to Liberty than back.

You're right, make a backup, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, then flash the CM7 file. Then flash the Gapps. Then reboot and youre good.
