NO! Say it isn't so! I have been enjoying my Maxx and the awesome service in my area from Verizon since February along with the deep discount of only $40.00 per phone with 4Gb data on my daughters corporate discount plan. Today the corporate axe came down and she lost her job along with her Verizon contract. I still have a few months to go before I take my medical boards so I was enjoying the affordable service on our three phones but there is no way I can afford having to go up to $200.00 per month and verizon is now saying they wont reactivate my phone unless I stay on a data plan. Well that sucks.
I still won't have a job for a few more months and my student loans have all but run out. Her employer is cutting the phones off at 3pm today so I have until then to decide what to do,

ugggghhhh!!!!

Yep, Verizon has a policy of any smartphone being required to have a Data Plan...something about how there is no way for them to prevent a 3G/4G phone from accessing the internet, so if they disconnect Data Plan, the phone will rack up data at a per KB cost. The Rep at Verizon told me this was tried for a while, but after several (who is to say how many) complaints due to unexpected multi-thousand dollar data access bills, they decided it's either a dumb phone with Cellular service only, or a smart phone with Cellular and Data.

I wanted to give my son's D2 (my old D2) a Cellular service plan but only have him on WIFI for data. They said no. So he has 2 phones...yep, 2. One for phone calls (a Samsung Flip-Shot), and one for gaming and data (the D2). Sucks, but had to do it that way...I wasn't about to pay another $40 per month for his data plan.

Thanks to a very helpful Verizon rep, my daughter was able to activate a new family account and keep all our phones active with the same numbers. The best thing though was that he applied the corporate discount that she had with her employer to her new account. :hail: dancedroid

So, now that the upgrade counter has been reset..... The Droid DNA and the Razr Maxx HD look awful tempting. LOL, too bad itll be a few months before I have a job and a paycheck. I love my maxx too much anyway to take a chance on a new phone.
