OG Droid physical keyboard errors.

I activated my mother's old droid to use as my new phone and everything works fine except the physical keyboard.

I'm a big fan of tactile response, so the physical keyboard is a lot quicker for me to use than the onscreen one.

Here are the list of errors:

when 'a' is pressed, 'xa' is entered
when 'space' is pressed, 'j space' is entered
when 't' is pressed 't/' is entered
when '/' is pressed 't/' is entered
when 'j' is pressed 'j space' is entered
when 'x' is pressed 'xa' is entered
when 'b' is pressed 'alt b' is entered

Any ideas on how to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated
