Odd text problem

I've searched and haven't found a similar issue.
My problem is that recenty when I start a text conversation with a couple different friends, I will get one instance of the texts I sent them, and another instance of their reply. If that doesn't make sense, I mean that if you go into the conversation list you would see a pic of my friend, his name, and what he sent me. Below that, a pic of same friend, his name, and the texts I have sent him. Its pretty annoying.
So far have gone into the text options and cleared the data as well as cache, but no luck. I have deleted both conversations and started fresh with a new conversation, but when he replies its still put into a separate conversation.

*edit* My DROIDx is not rooted, and is currently up to date with 2.3.3

have you tried using a different messaging application than the stock text messaging?

Haven't tried any other text apps, the standard text program has worked perfectly for almost a year, now it has this strange bug.

Since my software update i have had the same problem. did you ever find a fix for this?

Have you tried to clear messaging app cache/data?
