Notification light(s)

It's nice not being a slave to a blinking LED . I wasn't sure about it when I first got the phone but now... Its awesome .

Active Notifications is the single best feature that I love about the Turbo (and loved it on my 1st gen Moto X, too). I'm not sure I could go back to a phone with a simple blinking light. Such a huge step backward!

I agree with you. I absolutely love the active notification feature of the Droid Turbo! It's a great way to be notified and saves time getting to the notification you want to get to rather than hitting the power button each time to get there. Couldn't live without it now!

Do active notifications work with a pin/password lock? I have to have mine locked because I have a VPN for work that requires it, but it'd be nice to get some notifications on the fly without having to unlock the phone to make sure it's nothing too important.

Definitely liking the lollipop lockscreen notifications on my Nexus 7 which also has the VPN set up.

Yes, I think it's even MORE useful when your screen is locked. The notifications (which are just icons) pulse whether or not you have a lock set up. When you touch on an icon in the notification (a text or an email, etc) you will get more info - who the sender was, the subject line, or the first line of text - without unlocking your screen. Armed with that info you can then decide what to do - dismiss the notification if it's not important, or slide up to go directly to it, but the unlock screen will then come up first, and as soon as you unlock it will go straight to the text or email. It saves you the trouble of constantly unlocking your screen to see if that latest notification is important or not.

Oh, and just to set the record straight, I think Motorola calls it Moto Display now. It was Active Notifications when first introduced on the first gen Moto X.

I like the notification display, but after 3 weeks I still miss and wish the phone also had a notification LED. Best of both worlds. What I don't like is having to wait for the pulse rather than a quick glance of an LED light. Just my preference. Obviously others feel differently. If you really want an LED give the DT considerable thought before getting it.

Possibly, different strokes for different folks. I read a post on a Jeep Forum from a guy debating about getting rid of his Ram Truck and maybe getting a Jeep in 2016 (w/a Diesel) IF there is a comfortable way for him to eat fast food lunches a couple times a week in the jeep like he does now in his Dodge.
That struck me funny in so many ways, the blinking LED as a deal breaker/maker is sorta like that (for me at least)

I don't have a Turbo yet....it will be my next phone in a few months. Coming from a Droid RAZR M to a Droid Maxx (which also has Active Notifications) I thought I might miss the LED notification light. I did for about 2 days. Now I love Active Notifications and can't see myself going back to a phone with an LED light. But as stated...to each their own....one of the things that makes Android awesome, there are a lot of choices.

Yep, I get that. Everyone may not love it. There are a few things that might help a little bit, though.
- In general, if it's pulsing very slowly then there are no new notifications (it speeds up when there are)
- The Turbo has a motion detector, so if you hold you hand over it when the screen is dark (no need to touch) the Moto Display should come on.

My lockscreen Notis work with a pin on my Note 3. You have to wave your hand above the proximity sensor to see them though.

I forget about that because it's off. Haha. Still not quite the same. And not everything puts notifications right on the lockscreen a la moto display &/or lollipop.

They do. I need pin and phone encryption for work email also so when I had Maxx it would flash notifications, when I unlocked it(if it was after 30 minutes of inactivity) it would ask for pin.

I really think Moto active display notifications are pretty cool. But I ended up wanting the LED lights more. Across the room I can determine by the color whether my boss called me or just some random telemarketer. I can tell if my wife texted me or my daughter.
There's an app called ACDisplay I'm gonna have to try that seems to have the same concept as Moto. Maybe I can have both LED and Active notifications then... lol
