I had to get a factory restore to get gingerbread off my phone. And now it works fine. Bug mine was doing the same thing.

You've probably have already used factory reset. If you haven't, try this. It worked for me!
Settings > Language & keyboards > Multi-touch keyboard.

Then:

- Disable 'vibrate on keypress.'
- Disable 'next word prediction.'
- Clear learned words.

This also stopped the notification light from blinking unnecessarily and fixed the on/off working navigation lights.

I was surprised.

I'm having the same issues with the typing. It starts out fine, then all of a sudden the onscreen keyboard disappears. The last few times I had to pull of the battery to be able to go back and complete a message.

No problem! Glad I could help!

This just worked for me too! I couldn't type anything at all with my keyboard. Even pulling out the battery didn't help.

Now I can type again!

Although my "vibrate on keypress" was already disabled, this worked for me also...thanks!!
