I posted a comment about this last week mixed in a long thread, but figured it may deserve it's own topic. Has anyone else realized that this is the first year since 2009 that there is no Droid branded phone being released? I'm surprised this hasn't been a News topic on the Forum. Verizon said the Droid brand is not dead, just that it didn't make sense to release one this year and there would be another when "the time is right". I'm not sure what that means, or why the new Z2 Play and Z2 Force didn't have at least one Droid variant in the lineup. Is this even relevant? Should the Droid brand die off? Or do you hope that there is another dedicated Droid branded phone in 2018? Which Droids have you owned?

For me, I certainly hope to see a dedicated Droid branded phone by Moto in 2018. The new Z2 Play and Z2 Force look awesome, but are missing a few of the Droid specific features that I like and use.

My list of Droid phones is:
Original Droid
Droid 3
HTC Droid Incredible 4G (wife)
Droid Bionic
Droid RAZR M (all 4 family members)
Droid Maxx
Droid Turbo
Droid Turbo 2 (me and the wife...custom Moto Maker phones)
Z Force Droid

I've had the RAZR M, Turbo, Turbo 2, and currently the Z Force Droid. I can't say the right or wrong of what Lenovo and Verizon have done. Hopefully, a Moto phone released to all carriers will really get Moto back on the map. While the Moto Droids have been outstanding phones, they've never received the full respect they deserved. (Just my two cents.) Thanks for starting the thread!

I have my current phone ZForce Droid which I love and a hand me down phone from my son (which I think was Droid X which I also loved) I agree that it would have been a good idea to keep the Droid brand alive and continuing because I, too, continue to like the Droid features that we have come to love Thanks again for bringing this to our attention and for starting this thread!

It would be great if they would release a flagship Droid phone next year. It would surely help activity on the forum :)

I am surprised that neither of the new Z2 Play or Z2 Force was branded as a Droid model for 2017. And that the end of the Droid line doesn't seem to be getting any attention anywhere. I wonder if Verizon released Moto from their contract to produce Droid branded phones, and couldn't find another manufacturer in time for 2017? Or if they both just agreed that the timing wasn't right for a new Droid phone in 2017? We will probably never know why.

I wonder if the cost of using the brand/trademark has gone up considerably since Disney purchased Lucasfilms.

That's what I was thinking, Disney trying to recoup some of their monies.

For me the Droid name died after the Droid 2... (my last Droid).

@Sajo good point as I didnt realize we lacked a Droid the past few years.

But I also don't think DROID has the same kind of pull it had back then.

DROID needs to go back to being an identity, but then again so do Verizon.

It's just this year pc747, 2017, that there is no Droid phone. There has been at least one every year since 2009. But not in 2017.

Not sure I understand your post? Droid phones are Android. Just a specific model sold by Verizon.

A Droid iPhone? Now that would be different.
