When i boot mine up, mine doesn't say "droid" until android boots up. I unlock the screen and for about a second or two it's just black, then my background boots up and i hear "droid"
Reboot yours and see?

thanks for your help dezymond. i turn the phone off, then on, and i see:

motorola logo for about 15 seconds
droid lettering turning into
red droid eye
desktop

at no point does the droid voice speak up. :(

Hmm...if you hadn't downloaded to many apps yet. you could do a factory reset and retry it.

Settings> Privacy > Factory Data Reset

Other things you could check is; Media volume, Ringer volume, Notification volume.

Hate to see you do a factory reset or have you return it and consider another phone. The droid is a great phone and with new technology comes bugs, hopefully the update coming out in about a month will fix everything.
